PURPOSE:
To consider committing $2,500,000 of 2017 SPLOST Funds from Category 1E - Multi-Use Trails Fund and $500,000 from District 6 Category 1M - Commission District Discretionary Fund for land acquisition and construction of a segment of the South River Trail from Custer Avenue to Crestdale Circle
NEED/IMPACT:
This item will show the County’s support to construct a segment of multi-use trail from Custer Avenue to Crestdale Circle through property owned by Apac-Georgia, Inc. commonly known as the Donzi Road/Old Castle site and adjacent parcels. This portion of the trail is a key piece of the County’s long range plan to provide a connection from the existing, and under construction, segments of the South River Trail System to the Atlanta Beltline.
This funding commitment builds on prior discussions and is dependent, in part, on receiving the following documents:
・ Old Castle Concrete Products commitment to donate materials to the project (approximately $350,000)
・ Property Owner’s commitment to convey an easement to the County for construction and maintenance of the trail.
・ PATH Foundation’s commitment to provide construction documents for County’s use during bid phase to select a contractor.
