PURPOSE:

To authorize the Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs Department to apply to the State of Georgia’s
Department of Early Care and Learning Bright from the Start Program for grant funding to implement the 2020   Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The RPCA Department will provide meal services to designated DeKalb County neighborhoods and to approximately thirty (30) additional non-profit agencies throughout the County.  The program is scheduled to run from June 01, 2020 to July 31, 2020.

NEED/IMPACT:

During the school year, many children receive free and reduced meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).  When school lunch programs terminate at the end of the school year, these children are at risk of hunger.  The 2020 Summer Food Service Program will address this concern by providing meal services for those children in need residing in DeKalb County communities.

FISCAL IMPACT:

Fiscal Year 2020 funding to be reimbursed by State of Georgia.  The County anticipates the 2020 program to exceed $450,000.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents with the State of Georgia’s Department of Early Care and Learning Bright from the Start Program to apply, receive and implement the 2020 Summer Food Service Program.
