PURPOSE:

To consider accepting the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA)-Compensation Advocate grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council in the amount of $80,660, for the District Attorney’s Office Victim Assistance Program for the grant year October 01, 2020- September 30, 2021; and

To continue the Victims Compensation Advocate funded through the grant through the grant period; and

To authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

This grant is additional to the District Attorney’s VOCA grant which funds eleven Victim Advocate positions who are essential to  providing a range of services to victims of crime required by the Crime Victims Bill of Rights,  O.G.C.A. 17-17-1, including but not limited to notification of court dates, accompaniment to court, emergency safety planning, counseling, and referrals to community agencies.  The District Attorney’s Office was also awarded last year one additional position, with unofficial authorization that the grant would be renewed at least at the current level for a minimum of an additional three years, specifically for the purpose of providing victims and the community information and assistance with Victims Compensation. The position requires no match.

Recommended Action
