PURPOSE:
To accept the benefits, terms and conditions of the 2019 Assistance To Firefighters Grant from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security. The grant is to be used to purchase Source Capture Exhaust Systems (SCES). SCES equipment captures exhaust gases from vehicles via a conduit that exhaust them, by mechanical means, to the exterior of the building. The amount of the award is $809,641.82. The grant requires a 10% match of $80,964.18.

The purpose of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is to protect the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel against fire and fire-related hazards. After careful consideration, FEMA has determined that the recipient`s project or projects submitted as part of the recipient`s application as detailed in the project narrative as well as the request details section of the application - including budget information - was consistent with the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program`s purpose and was worthy of award.

The proposed period of performance will be from 9/18/20 to 9/17/21.

NEED/IMPACT:
The grant will enable Fire Rescue to purchase equipment that capture and remove vehicle exhaust fumes from the fire house to the exterior of the building. Removal of vehicle exhaust fumes from the living quarters of fire fighters contributes greatly to their quality of life and maintaining good health.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Grant Funds Match. Not to exceed $80,964.18 over the one year term of the grant.
