Memorandum of Understanding with the Georgia Department of Transportation for Decorative Fencing on Three I-285 Bridges

PURPOSE:
To consider entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for adding decorative fencing to the Glenwood Road, Covington Highway, and Redwing Circle bridges over I-285;
To consider appropriating $370,000.00 of SPLOST funds from line item 1J - Corridor Beautification to fund these improvements;
To consider authorizing the payment of up to $370,000.00 to GDOT to cover the cost of these improvements; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of this project.
NEED/IMPACT:
In preparation for adding express lanes along I-285, GDOT is proposing to replace the Glenwood Road, Covington Highway, and Redwing Circle bridges over I-285. GDOT is willing to upgrade the fencing on the new bridges from standard chain link to decorative fencing similar to what is on the Memorial Drive and Flat Shoals Road bridges if DeKalb County will cover the difference in cost. The proposed MOU will facilitate adding the decorative fencing to the three bridges.
FISCAL IMPACT:
SPLOST funds in the amount of $370,000.00 will cover the cost of these improvements.
