A Resolution of The Governing Authority of DeKalb County, Georgia Opposing Big Truck Size or Weight Increases

Body

Information Contact: Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson

Phone Number: 404-371-2899

PURPOSE:

To adopt a resolution to oppose any increases in big truck length or weight, including specific exemptions, at the State or Federal level.

NEED/IMPACT:

A resolution to oppose any increases in big truck length or weight, including specific exemptions, at the State or Federal level. Increases in truck length and weight would exacerbate the existing underpayment for the infrastructure damage they cause, thus increasing their subsidization by municipalities and counties, amounting to an unfunded mandate. There is concern for the safety and welfare of motorists and the cost, quality and reliability of the County’s infrastructure, as well as the development of the County as one of the region’s premiere transportation hubs.

FISCAL IMPACT:

N/A

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action
