PURPOSE:
To consider accepting a continuation Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Grant from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council to the District Attorney's Office in the amount of $469,864 for the grant period of August 01, 2021 - July 31, 2023; and

To consider the continuation of the SAKI Prosecutor and Investigator positions previously funded by the original SAKI grant; and

To authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:
In 2017, CJCC was awarded $3,000,000 under BJA's 2017 Sexual Assault Initiative Grant to develop a cold case Metro-Atlanta Sexual Assault Task Force to respond to cases resulting from the testing of aged sexual assault kits identified under this project. DeKalb was identified as a key partner in this initiative, along with the GBI and a few additional metro agencies. The current award is a continuation of this original grant, to continue all aspects of the existing project.

Included in DeKalb's portion of the grant is funding to cover the two DeKalb positions and all necessary supplies and training. No additional funds are being requested at this time.
