PURPOSE:

The DeKalb County Community Development Department offers deferred payment, forgivable loans to assist seniors and disabled homeowners with critical repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and roofing. This funding allocation will allow eligible applicants to apply for the funding.

Neighbors in Need (NIN) Program provides emergency home repairs for low-income elderly homeowners. This initiative is grassroots, relationship-based, block-by-block effort to improve seniors' lives.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

This funding is being provided to aid District 3 Seniors who need critical home repairs. Eligible seniors can apply to receive assistance through the DeKalb County Community Development Department.  Each applicant could be awarded up to $1000 for home repairs.  The administration and implementation of the program will be managed by Community Development.

 

The Neighbor in Needs Program Neighbors (NIN) Program provides emergency home repairs for low-income elderly homeowners. This initiative will provide the services for the eligible seniors based on their home repair needs from the Neighbor in Needs program.  Each NIN will receive $10,000 to provide services to the seniors for emergency home repairs.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Transfer from District 3 Non-Departmental - Unincorporated Fund - Reserve for Appropriation (09130.579002.272.0000.0000) to Community Development Fund 250 for use by DeKalb County Community Development Department amount not to exceed $65,000.

 

Transfer from District 3 Non-Departmental - Unincorporated Fund - Reserve for Appropriation (09130.579002.272.0000.0000) transfer to Non-Departmental Fund 250Funds will be allocated to the following programs:

 

                     Kirkwood Cares - $10,000

                     East Lake & Edgewood NIN - $20,000

                     East Atlanta Community Association NIN - $10,000

Recommended Action

Recommend that funds be approved in the amount not to exceed $65,000 for the DeKalb County Special Purpose Home Repair Program and funds for the Neighbor in Needs program in the amount not to exceed $40,0000.
