PURPOSE:
Due to DeKalb County's continued success in providing emergency rental and utility assistance, the Department of Treasury has awarded the County an additional $25,000,000.00 in Emergency Rental Assistance Funds to assist DeKalb residents who are at risk of evictions and/or homelessness. DeKalb's leadership and programming with the Courts and community partners has demonstrated and embodied the goals as set forth by the Department of Treasury in providing Emergency Rental Assistance grant funds. The Department of Treasury has recognized the DeKalb County Government and supports their efforts to provide rental and/or utility assistance to DeKalb residents impacted by COVID-19. Therefore, the Department of Treasury is allocating an additional $25,000,000.00 to DeKalb County Government.

NEED/IMPACT:
The grant funds are to assist DeKalb County residents who are and continue to experience financial hardships and are unable to pay rent and/or utilities due to the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 global pandemic. The program will continue to prevent and protect families from evictions by keeping families in their homes; and will reduce/prevent the risk of homelessness and/or home instability. Payments will be made towards rent and utilities. Funds will provide financial assistance and relief to eligible households through existing or newly created assistance programs.

FISCAL IMPACT:
Grant Period March 11, 2021, through September 30, 2025. No impact on the County.
