Phone Number: 404-371-2863

PURPOSE:

To provide funding from District 2 ARP POETA Account 105744.63258.521209.01.02.602479 in the amount of $6,000.00 for outdoor furniture, 25 padded folding chairs, 2 canopy tents and social programming funds to the Central DeKalb Senior Center.

NEED/IMPACT:

COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted senior citizens.  Social isolation has been an unwelcome by product of the last several years.  Many of DeKalb’s seniors have faced severe mental health issues as a result of social isolation.  Additionally, many seniors still fear going inside to gatherings or classes at their neighborhood center.  The funding for this outdoor furniture, chairs, tents and support for social programming would allow for outdoor planning, meeting, and engagement for those who are not ready to enter inside the building.

FISCAL IMPACT:

District 2 ARP POETA Account 105744.63258.521209.01.02.602479

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the appropriation to the Central DeKalb Senior Center and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents in order to support the purchase of the outdoor furniture, chairs, tents and to provide funding for social engagement programming for Central DeKalb Senior Center members.
