PURPOSE:

To approve the appropriation of $50,000 from the America Rescue Plan grant funds assigned to the account reserved for District 7 to the Steed Society to provide vaccination events in DeKalb County Schools and implement a strategic marketing campaign to encourage citizens who might not otherwise get the vaccine and mitigate the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEED/IMPACT:

The $50,000 appropriation will be used to provide vaccination events in DeKalb County Schools and implement a strategic marketing campaign to encourage citizens who might not otherwise get the vaccine and mitigate the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many families and students in low-vaccinated census tracks have not been vaccinated. Only 26% of DeKalb County kids ages 5-9 have had only one vaccination shot. Approximately, 73% of DeKalb County Schools are Title I and provide education and services to low-income and marginalized populations who tend not to get vaccinated. Schools are a trusted location for students and their parents and the best way to reach at-risk populations who have not been vaccinated.

FISCAL IMPACT:

To appropriate an amount not to exceed $50,000 from POETA Account # 105744.63258.521209.01.07.602479 to the Steed Society to provide vaccination events in DeKalb County Schools and implement a strategic marketing campaign to encourage citizens who might not otherwise get the vaccine and mitigate the public health emergency created by the COVID-19 pandemic.
