PURPOSE:
To take steps necessary to obtain and maintain through ACCG the firefighter cancer insurance that is required by Georgia law.
NEED/IMPACT:
Georgia law requires fire departments to provide certain firefighter cancer insurance. ACCG provides such insurance at a reasonable cost but now requires counties to join the ACCG Interlocal Risk Management Agency (ACCG-IRMA) and sign an intergovernmental contract in order to obtain firefighter cancer insurance through ACCG.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Estimated Annual Premium - $105,166
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
Adopt the attached Resolution of the DeKalb County Governing Authority Authorizing Membership in the ACCG-Interlocal Risk Management Agency Supplemental Medical Accident and Disability Fund; authorize the CEO or his designee to sign the Intergovernmental Contract for ACCG-IRMA (subject to the limitations in the attached Resolution) and the ACCG-Interlocal Risk Management Agency (ACCG-IRMA) Firefighter Cancer Coverage Application and Participation Agreement that are included in Appendix A to this Resolution.
