PURPOSE:

To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for operation and maintenance of additional street lights on Covington Highway from Panola Road to South Hairston Road.

NEED/IMPACT:

DeKalb County has requested that Georgia Power install 16 additional street lights on existing utility poles on Covington Highway between South Hairston Road and Panola Road.  As a condition of granting a permit to Georgia Power to install the lights, GDOT is requiring DeKalb County to reaffirm that it will be responsible for the cost of operating and maintaining the lights by signing a Memorandum of Agreement.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There will be no cost to the County for installation.  Annual maintenance and operating costs are estimated to be $3,699.12.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute an agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for operation and maintenance of additional street lights on Covington Highway from Panola Road to South Hairston Road.
