PURPOSE:
Pursuant to Section 13.5.3 of the DeKalb County Code, the chief executive officer shall nominate individuals to
serve on the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission for confirmation by the board of commissioners
as provided in Section 13A of the DeKalb County Organization Act. CEO Thurmond nominates Dr. Pamela Scully for appointment to the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission. This is a three (3) year
term which will begin upon confirmation and expires July 31, 2025.
NEED/IMPACT:
The purpose and intent of the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission is to establish a uniform
procedure for use in providing for the protection, enhancement, perpetuation, and use of places, districts, sites,
buildings, structures, objects, landscape features and works of art having special historical, cultural, or aesthetic
interest, or value. Dr. Pamela Scully is a history professor at Emory University and lives in the historic district. In addition to being an historian she also has some experience in sensitive historical renovations. Dr. Scully’s appointment to the commission will be an asset to the county and those who rely on the services provided
through the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission.
