PURPOSE:

To consider the creation of a temporary, part-time, grant-funded Cold Case Investigative Program Director in the District Attorney’s Office completely funded by the already accepted Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA Grant, to expire on September 30, 2026; and

To authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:

The D.A.’s  Office was awarded $533,200 under the Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Prosecuting Cold Cases Using DNA grant. The grant was previously accepted by the Board of Commissioners on October 10, 2023.  The purpose of the current item is strictly to create the position, to expire as the grant expires, on September 30, 2026, unless a grant extension is requested and approved.

Funds are available in the grant to completely cover the Investigative Program Director position, which will be classified as Job Code 32180, Grade 27.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional or matching funds are required, and no additional funds are needed to develop the initiative; no funds are being requested.
