PURPOSE:

To allocate $20,000 of District 2 Reserve for Appropriation to LifeLine Animal Project to fund High Quality High Volume Spay Neuter trainings for veterinarians, vet assistants and vet techs.

NEED/IMPACT:

This allocation is needed to support an innovative, team-based high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter (HQHVSN) training program that will improve surgical efficiency, increase spay/neuter capacity, and expand access to affordable veterinary services in DeKalb County. Unlike traditional wet labs that focus primarily on veterinarians, this training will bring together four veterinarians and six veterinary technicians and assistants to learn coordinated surgical protocols based on Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) guidelines. A third instructor will provide specialized instruction and hands-on supervision for veterinary support staff. Approved by the United Spay Alliance, this approach would make DeKalb County and LifeLine Animal Project the first in Georgia to implement this model, positioning the County as a leader in innovative veterinary training while strengthening local capacity to address pet overpopulation and reduce animal shelter intake.

FISCAL IMPACT:

An amount not to exceed $20,000 from District 2 Reserve for Appropriation (00202.579002.100.000.0000)

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action
