PURPOSE:
To approve the transfer of $47,828.20 District 6 reserve for appropriations to the District 6 operating budget allocated for other professional services to reimburse the expenses that were required to plan, coordinate, and execute the DeKalb Green New Deal Summit on 10/14/2023.
NEED/IMPACT:
Communities across Georgia are experiencing the effects of climate change through unpredictable and disruptive weather, high energy bills, flooding, and extreme heat. To address concerns and to highlight DeKalb County’s initiatives and plans to identify and execute solutions to the climate crisis locally through land use, planning, and zoning, the DeKalb Green New Deal Summit was presented on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Over 250 participants registered and attended this all-day free event held at the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Conference Center in Clarkston for DeKalb County residents. The Summit provided the opportunity to learn about local solutions to the climate crisis and to connect over a green, just vision of the future.
This agenda item was reviewed to move forward by the Budget Department.
