PURPOSE:

Pursuant to the Ordinance establishing the Historic Preservation Commission as authorized by the Georgia Historic Preservation Act for the appointment of Members to the Historic Preservation Commission, the chief executive officer shall nominate individuals for confirmation by the board of commissioners as provided in Section 13A, CEO Cochran-Johnson nominates Ms. Thibodeaux for appointment to the Historic Preservation Commission in Post 5 of Group B. This is for a three (3) year term that will expire June 30, 2027. Ms. Thibodeaux will serve during the unexpired term of Post 5, the post previously occupied by Heather Shuster, whose appointment expired July 31, 2023.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The purpose of the DeKalb County Historic Preservation Commission is authorized to prepare an inventory of all property within historic preservation jurisdictions; to recommend that specific places, districts, buildings, structures, or works of art be designated as historic properties or historic districts; to review applications for certificates of appropriateness and grant or deny the same; restore or preserve historic properties within the County; to seek out state and federal funds for historic preservation and make recommendations to the Governing Authority on the appropriate use of those funds; and to conduct education programs on historic properties within the historic preservation jurisdictions.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No cost to the County.

To confirm the appointment of Ms. Thibodeaux to the Historic Preservation Commission in Post 5 of Group B with the term that began on July 1, 2024, and expires on June 30, 2027.
