PURPOSE:

To consider approval and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute the Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP) grant agreement with the Association County Commissioners of Georgia Civic Affairs Foundation in the amount of $3,259.50 for one (1) Executive Intern - Economic Development position, to fund costs associated with the intern’s salary, FICA, and workers’ compensation, as provided in the agreement. 

 

NEED/IMPACT:

DeKalb County has been awarded $3,259.50 in grant funding for the 2026 summer program to support one (1) Executive Intern - Economic Development position. From May 1, 2026, through September 1, 2026, the intern will provide research, data analysis, and project support for initiatives focused on business attraction, retention, and expansion. Specific assignments will include development of an economic development dashboard, mapping of priority commercial corridors, research on grant and incentive opportunities, and compilation of case studies on successful public-private partnerships. The intern will also collaborate with Decide DeKalb and other regional partners to identify opportunities for workforce development and investment. This initiative will strengthen the County’s economic development capacity, support informed decision-making, and enhance efforts to attract jobs, grow the commercial tax base, and revitalize underutilized corridors.

To approve the $3,259.50 grant and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents to accept the Georgia County Internship Program (GCIP) Grant from the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Civic Affairs Foundation.
