PURPOSE:
To approve a District 6 Reserve for Appropriations to support immigrant community members within their targeted area with their heritage story telling project by collecting, archiving, and sharing the community’s immigrant stories.
NEED/IMPACT:
We Love Buford Highway is a deeply trusted non-profit organization that aims to preserve the cultural diversity and promote the prosperity of the family-owned businesses and communities living along the Buford Highway corridor. DeKalb County is proud of the ethnic and cultural diversity that is woven in the history of our great DeKalb and supports efforts that embrace the many facets of “One-DeKalb”.
In the face of the pandemic, unmeasurable economic hardships within a backdrop of highly competitive markets and growth, local communities are facing tremendous change striking urgency more than any other time in the corridor’s half of century worth of flavors, experience, art, stories, and tradition.
This District 6 Reserve for appropriation will support funding for this important and meaningful project of collecting, archiving, and sharing the community’s immigrant stories while raising awareness of customs, heritage, representation, and arts and culture celebrations.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Increase appropriations for the following account by the amount indicated below:

Decrease appropriations for the following account by the amount indicated below:
Non-Departmental - Unincorporated Fund - Reserve for Appropriation (09130.579002.272.0000.0000) $1,000.00
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the appropriation of $1,000 from the 2023 Budget Reserve for Appropriations for District 6 to We Love Buford Highway and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all the necessary documents/contracts appropriate for this award.
