PURPOSE:
To amend agenda item 2024-1314 to reflect that the $46,000 District 2 American Rescue Plan Tranche II appropriation shall be used for the United Way’s critical reading proficiency efforts at DeKalb County Schools and for other eligible uses.
NEED/IMPACT:
In November of 2024, Agenda Item 2024-1314 was approved for an appropriation of $46,000 District 2 American Rescue Plan Tranche II funding to the United Way’s AARP Experience Corps program. This funding was to be used specifically for a reading proficiency effort at Briar Vista Elementary School in District 2 with senior citizen volunteer tutors. The United Way has advised that the AARP Experience Corps program will not be taking place at Briar Vista Elementary in 2025, necessitating the need to amend Agenda Item 2024-1314. The United Way would still like to provide critical reading proficiency support and resources with materials and training to District 2 Title 1 Schools and therefore this funding will be reallocated toward that effort.

The total amount appropriated shall be $46,000 as provided for in Agenda Item 2024-1314 as follows:

Recommended Action
To amend Agenda Item 2024-1314 to reflect that the $46,000 District 2 American Rescue Plan Tranche II appropriation shall be used by the United Way for critical reading proficiency efforts at DeKalb County Schools and for other eligible uses and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
