PURPOSE:

Pursuant to Section 13A of the DeKalb County Organizational Act and the state law establishing county community service boards, CEO Cochran-Johnson nominates Ms. Deborah Jackson for appointment to Post 3 of the DeKalb County Community Service Board. This appointment is for a three (3) year term that will begin July 1, 2026 and expire June 30, 2029. Ms. Jackson will replace Ms. Rosemarie Nelson who has continued to serve after expiration of her term of appointment. 

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The DeKalb County Community Service Board provides mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive disease services to children and adults in DeKalb County as Claratel Health. The Community Service Board is the governing authority overseeing Claratel Health’s executive operations. Per state law DeKalb County’s Community Service Board has ten (10) at-large appointees from the public and three (3) elected officials. Appointees serve three (3) year terms and can be reappointed indefinitely.

 

The at-large members must be either a consumer of disability services; a psychiatrist; a psychologist or other behavioral health or development disabilities professional; a law enforcement officer; a family member of a consumer a disability services; an advocate for disability services; parents of a child with mental illness or addictive disease; and/or a local leader or businessperson with an interest in mental health, developmental disabilities, and/or addictive diseases.

 

Ms. Jackson is a local businessperson with an interest in mental health, developmental disabilities, and addictive diseases. She is also a longtime community advocate and the former mayor of the City of Lithonia.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No cost to the County.

To approve the appointment of Ms. Deborah Jackson to Post 3 of the DeKalb County Community Service Board for a term expiring on June 30, 2029.
