PURPOSE:
The Clerk to Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Commissioners would like the minutes of the Commission to reflect appointments made by individual Commissioners to various boards and authorities. Shamsh Jaffer, previously appointed by former Commissioner Kathie Gannon, has served as the District 6 Watershed CIP Advisory Board appointment for close to a decade. In 2021, Shamsh Jaffer accepted Commissioner Terry’s appointment to continue serving at this capacity which expired 12/31/2024. He has diligently served, and we are all grateful for his contributions.
NEED/IMPACT:
As Commissioner Terry begins his 2nd term as the Super District Commissioner, his intention is to appoint Winton Cooper as the District 6 Watershed CIP Advisory Board appointee. Mr. Cooper is an environmental scientist and published researcher with a strong passion for sustainability and community well-being. In his professional role as a water quality specialist, he focus on surface water quality, pollutant investigations and code enforcement. He also has an extensive knowledge of stormwater, wastewater, and drinking water systems, which complements his interest in environmental policy. In addition, Winton has experience working on steering committees for EPA grant initiatives that support recycling and waste diversion efforts and is confident he can actively participate and contribute to discussions in an organized and effective manner.
Commissioner Terry is fortunate that he has indicated his intent to serve in this capacity and is confident that his diverse background and skill set will offer valuable perspective and contribute meaningfully. The Commissioner is prepared to appoint Mr. Winton Cooper for his Commission term ending on December 31, 2028, unless such term ends sooner as provided by law.
