PURPOSE:

To consider accepting and appropriating up to $403,845.00 in funds from the Georgia Department of
Transportation (GDOT) for low-cost safety improvements at documented crash locations; To consider reserving $125,000.00 of SPLOST funds from line item 1B - Federal and State Transportation Project Matching Funds for Transportation Purposes as the local match; and To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents to complete the project.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

GDOT LMIG Safety Action Plan funds are available to DeKalb County for safety improvements at documented crash locations.  The selected safety projects based on the GDOT application qualifications are:  Northern Avenue Curve Treatment from Indian Creek Way to Clarkston Oaks/Northern Pines Apartments Driveways, Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon on Church Street near Decatur Village Drive/MARTA bus stops, Briarcliff Road striping and raised pavement markings from Kingscliff Road to City of Brookhaven, George Luther Drive striping and raised pavement markings from Durham Park Road to Memorial Drive, Snapfinger Road Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon at existing crosswalk (1365 Snapfinger Road), River Road crash location from Panthersville Road to Deer Spring Drive. GDOT approved the application and selected the above safety projects. 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Proposed to reserve $125,000.00 of SPLOST funds from line item 1B - Federal and State Transportation Project Matching Funds for Transportation Purposes as the local match.

Recommended Action
