PURPOSE:
To consider entering into a street lighting and landscape support agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to maintain any landscaping and to provide energy, operation and maintenance for any street lighting incorporated into the Kensington MARTA Shared Use Path and Road Diets project.; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents pertaining to this project.
NEED/IMPACT:
This project was included in DeKalb County’s 2019 Transportation Improvement Program funding application to the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC). Federal funding has since been awarded for the right-of-way and construction phases. The project is currently under design using SPLOST funds. GDOT will provide up to 80 percent of the funding for installing lighting and landscaping, but requires an indication of support that indicates that DeKalb County is willing to enter into a future agreement to provide ongoing energy, operation, and maintenance.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Amount and cost of lighting and landscaping to be installed will be determined during the design process by the Georgia Department of Transportation and DeKalb County.
