PURPOSE:

To consider accepting an additional $48,511.03 to the already accepted $19,100 from the State of Georgia’s Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency for the Georgia Gang Activity Prosecution (GAP) Grant for the grant period of November 9, 2023-May 15, 2024; and

To authorize the CEO to execute all necessary documents.

NEED/IMPACT:

The District Attorney was previously awarded $19,100, accepted in November, 2023under B.O.C. agenda item number 2023-1525, under the Georgia Gang Activity Grant Program, for the purpose of enhancing resources for successful gang prosecution. The D.A.’s Office’s Homicide and Gang Unit, in conjunction with its Digital Forensics Unit, utilized the funds towards the costs of the D.A.’s Cellebrite platform.  The technology is a powerful investigative data management tool which unifies the investigative lifecycle and manages digital evidence.

As Cellebrite’s costs were much greater than the original award, and the funder, at the conclusion of the grant year, had a surplus of unclaimed grant funds from other grant recipients, it has awarded an additional $48,511.03 to the District Attorney, for a total award of $67,611.03.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No match funds, and no additional County funding is being requested.

RECOMMENDATION:
