Title
Commission District(s): Super District 6
Allocation (Not to Exceed) $14,767 of the Balance of District 6 American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) from POETA Account Tranche 1 and Tranche 2 to the DeKalb County Community Development Department to be Used for the Provision of Non-Congregate Emergency Shelter for Homeless Households Who Are Willing to Accept Emergency Shelter

Phone Number: 404-371-4909
PURPOSE:
During COVID, DeKalb County experienced a significant increase and demand for emergency, short term, or just housing. This impact from COVID is still evident within the homeless population, where the number of homeless children are growing, invisible to the public, in a desperate effort to keep the only family they have together. This funding will provide unrestricted money for emergency shelter space while our Community Development Homeless Coordinated Entry Team locates appropriate housing options. The priority will be households with children who want shelter.
NEED/IMPACT:
With only one 31-bed shelter in the DeKalb County entitlement area and over 1,000 homeless individuals in DeKalb annually, the number of shelter beds does not accommodate the need. To assist in satisfying shelter needs, the County entered into agreements for with Salvation Army Red Shield (13 single beds, 10 family beds) and Clifton Sanctuary Ministries (5 beds for single men). With the additional beds, the total inventory of shelter beds (41 family beds and 13 single) does not satisfy the demand for emergency shelter beds. The allocation will provide non-congregate emergency shelter space for a maximum of 14 day stay for 14 households. Households will be referred to emergency shelter as space is available
FISCAL IMPACT:
$14,767.00 Tranche 1 POETA Account 105744.63258.521209.01.06.602479 and Tranche 2 106388.63230.521209.10.06.602778 to close out District 6 ARP
