PURPOSE:

The Purpose of this Agenda Item is to provide funding for the SWD Career Day programming.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

Supporting the Southwest DeKalb High School 16th Annual Career Day Program through sponsorship with the Stewart Foundation represents a meaningful investment in workforce development, educational enrichment, and youth empowerment in DeKalb County. Many students benefit from increased exposure to professionals, industries, and postsecondary pathways that expand their understanding of career opportunities, and the skills needed for future success. Career Day provides direct access to mentors, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and public service professionals who can inspire students to pursue higher education, technical training, and career goals aligned with the evolving workforce. By connecting classroom learning to real-world experiences, the program helps build confidence, increase career awareness, and equip students with valuable knowledge about emerging industries and professional pathways. The impact extends beyond the event by strengthening partnerships among schools, community organizations, and employers while preparing the next generation of leaders, innovators, and skilled professionals who will contribute to the continued growth and prosperity of DeKalb County.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

An Amount not to exceed $3,000 of the District 7 Reserve for Appropriations funding, contributed towards SWD Career Day programming.

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve an allocation not to exceed $3,000 of the District 7 Reserve for Appropriations funding for the SWD Career Day programming and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
