PURPOSE:

To Appropriate $20,000 from the District 2 Reserve for Appropriation to the South Carolina State University
Alumni Association for the Purpose of Providing College Visits and Higher Education Workshops to DeKalb County Students.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

Click here to enter text.This allocation will allow the SCSUNAA Atlanta Chapter to provide DeKalb County high school students with a unique opportunity to visit South Carolina State University (SC State), a distinguished Historically Black College and University (HBCU), and experience college life firsthand as future scholars and leaders.

During the visit, students will:

                     Explore academic programs and campus resources.

                     Engage with faculty, staff, and current students.

                     Learn about admissions requirements, scholarships, and student support services.

                     Gain valuable insights that will help them set higher goals and make informed decisions about their future.

This experience is designed not only to showcase the value of higher education but also to inspire students to see themselves as future college graduates.

Student Workshops

In addition to the campus tour, students will participate in a series of targeted workshops designed to equip them with tools for success in higher education and beyond:

                     College Admissions & Application Process - Understanding requirements, timelines, and strategies to apply with confidence.

                     Life Skills & Transitioning to College - Building time management, study habits, and self-advocacy for success in a new environment.

By combining hands-on campus immersion with empowering workshops, this visit will inspire students to pursue higher education and prepare them with the knowledge and skills to thrive in college and beyond.

This experience not only increases the likelihood of students attaining postsecondary degrees but also strengthens their capacity to return as educated, skilled professionals who contribute to DeKalb County’s economic growth, civic engagement, and community leadership.

 

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

An amount not to exceed $20,000 to the Atlanta Chapter of the South Carolina National Alumni Association from Board of Commissioners District 2 2025 Reserve for Appropriation (00202.579002.100.0000.0000).

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the allocation of $20,000 and authorize the Chief Executive Officer or her designee to execute all necessary documents.
