PURPOSE:
The Purpose of this Agenda Item is to provide funding for the DeKalb Juvenile Justice Council youth programming.
NEED/IMPACT:
Supporting DeKalb Juvenile Justice Council youth programming is a critical investment in prevention, intervention, and positive youth development across DeKalb County. Many young people face challenges related to poverty, academic disengagement, mental health, exposure to violence, and limited access to supportive resources, increasing their risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system. Through mentorship, educational enrichment, workforce readiness, leadership development, and evidence-based support services, the Council's programming provides youth with constructive pathways to success while helping them build resilience, confidence, and life skills. The impact extends beyond individual participants by reducing recidivism, strengthening family and community connections, improving educational and employment outcomes, and fostering safer, healthier neighborhoods. By empowering young people with opportunities to thrive, the DeKalb Juvenile Justice Council helps create a stronger future for both youth and the broader DeKalb County community.
