PURPOSE:
Appropriate $50,000 from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funds assigned to Account 105744.63258.521209.01.01.602479 reserved for District 1 to the Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.to provide food assistance support for the Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (CHIPP) program.
NEED/IMPACT:
The Childhood Hunger Initiative Power Pack (also known as CHIPP) is one of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s international program initiatives. The goal of this program is to help eradicate childhood hunger in DeKalb County.
77.5% of the students in the DeKalb County School District are economically disadvantaged and based on school data, many communities have a 90% or greater economically disadvantaged population. To help meet the needs of these families, the organization provides meals through the CHIPP program on a weekly basis and also provide items for the food pantries at several schools.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The funding will come from District 1 American Rescue Plan Act Funding and be appropriated to the Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the appropriation of $50,000 from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant funds assigned to Account 105744.63258.521209.01.01.602479 reserved for District 1 to the Lambda Epsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and authorize the Chief Executive Officer or his designee to execute all necessary documents in a form acceptable to the County Attorney, for the purpose of providing food assistance to address needs created by the ongoing financial hardships created by the pandemic.
