Phone Number: 404-371-4909

PURPOSE:

To approve a District 6 ARPI allocation not to exceed $19,375 to research and Advice on process and policy recommendations to move the project needs forward on the Intrenchment Creek/DONZI/Old Castle PATH Foundation Trail and other related purposes as related by the Commissioner.

NEED/IMPACT:

The Intrenchment Creek/DONZI/Old Castle PATH Foundation Trail has been delayed for a number of years since funding was originally allocated under former D6 Commissioner Kathie Gannon. There have been many hours of discussion and funds expended with little to no forward momentum. The citizens that patronize this important community resource still have little to no access to this facility and continue to voice concern and complaint for lack of progress over these many years.

It is time to make progress on the behalf of the constituents who are frustrated by these delays, especially in light of the Belt-line’s eminent completion in the nearby Boulevard Crossing. This trail segment will ultimately connect Arabia Mountain via the Michelle Obama Trail to the core of the City of Atlanta and adjoining trail networks… a goal an objective that has been pursued for over a decade. In an effort for action, and coordination with the proposed small area plan for the Starlight Community, adjacent to the subject facility, this allocation to Bright Sun Community Solutions will support the Super District 6 key initiative to increase trail connectivity and access, open land preservation, community health, and economic development in the subject project area.

FISCAL IMPACT:

An amount not to exceed $19,375 to the Bright Sun Community Solutions from-Board of Commissioners - District 6 -ARP Interest Fund 00206.582206.100.000.0000

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To approve the allocation not to exceed $19,375 from the District 6 ARPI Fund to the Bright Sun Community Solution and authorize the Chief Executive Officer or her designee to execute all the necessary documents.
