PURPOSE:
The Amani Women Center is requesting support for the Amani Women’s Sewing Academy initiative that provides an underserved population of mostly African and Afghanistan refugee women within DeKalb County gain life skills that translate to livable wages and improves their economic wellbeing.
NEED/IMPACT:
Amani Women Center is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and structured learning and working environments for all participants, including students, instructors, and staff involved in the Sewing for Self-Sufficiency Program. Safety is integrated into daily operations, training, and supervision within both the classroom and production workspace. This is a twelve-month program that costs $1,315.00 per participant.
This allocation will support the Amani Women’s Sewing Academy initiative enrolling and graduating 38 program survivors with training, equipment, job development and placement, and weekly transportation to and from sewing classes.

Recommended Action
To approve the allocation of $10,000 to Amani Women Center from the 2026 District 6 Reserve for Appropriation account and authorize the Chief Executive Officer or her designee to execute all necessary documents.
