PURPOSE:
The purpose of this Agenda Item is to provide funding for the NCNW youth STEM programming.
NEED/IMPACT:
Supporting NCNW youth STEM programming in DeKalb County is a strategic investment in the county’s future workforce, educational equity, and economic competitiveness. Many students, particularly those from underserved and underrepresented communities, face limited access to high-quality STEM learning opportunities, industry exposure, mentorship, and hands-on experiences that foster interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics careers. NCNW’s STEM programming helps bridge these gaps by providing students with critical skills, real-world learning experiences, and pathways to high-demand careers in technology, healthcare, aviation, engineering, and other growing industries. The impact extends beyond individual participants by strengthening academic achievement, expanding career readiness, increasing representation in STEM fields, and cultivating the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and community leaders who will contribute to DeKalb County’s long-term economic growth and prosperity.
FISCAL IMPACT:
An Amount not to exceed $10,000 of the District 7 Reserve for Appropriations funding for the NCNW youth STEM programming.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve an allocation not to exceed $10,000 of the District 7 Reserve for Appropriations funding for the NCNW youth STEM programming and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents.
