PURPOSE:

To consider accepting grant funds in the amount of $54,692 from the CDC Foundation grant program for The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office

NEED/IMPACT:

We respectfully request to accept grant funds for DeKalb County, on behalf of the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office from the Centers for Disease Control Foundation. Accepting these grant funds would allow the DCMEO to develop a statistical data dashboard program that will enable our office to more effectively monitor and report on concerning public health trends to stakeholders across DeKalb County.

Having a comprehensive medical examiner's dashboard would empower DeKalb County to have evidence-based response efforts and prevention strategies at both the county and state levels. Locally, enhancing our data analysis capabilities through this CDCF grant will help inform targeted overdose prevention activities that have the potential to save lives in DeKalb.

This CDC grant program will enable the DCMEO to gain invaluable insights into the circumstances surrounding overdose deaths, violent deaths, common natural causes of death, and potential cases of child and elder maltreatment in our community. Accepting this grant is an important step in our ongoing efforts to serve DeKalb residents through data-driven public health initiatives.

FISCAL IMPACT:

There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund because there is no match requirement.

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommended Action

To accept the grant funds from CDC Foundation and allocate those grant funds to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office for statical data dashboard development. I further recommend authorizing the Chief Executive Officer of DeKalb County to execute all necessary documents related to the administration and disbursement of this grant.
