PURPOSE:
To approve DeKalb County’s acceptance of $90,000 in 2027 from the GRPA BOOST Program to fund Afterschool and Summer Programs. The program will be conducted in the following four DeKalb County facilities: Exchange Recreation Center, 2775 Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30034 (15 103 01 001): Gresham Recreation Center, 3113 Gresham Road SE, Atlanta, GA 30316 (15 085 01 004); Hamilton Recreation Center, 3262 Chapel Street, Scottsdale, GA 30079 (18 046 04 194); and NH Scott Park, 2230 Tilson Road, Decatur, GA 30032 (15 139 02 002).
NEED/IMPACT:
The Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) has awarded DeKalb County with $90,000 from the Building Opportunities for Out-of-School Time Grant in 2027. The funding will allow RPCA to offer afterschool and summer programs to participants of the county. The program promotes youth well-being and connectedness by creating safe, supportive environments where students develop positive relationships, strengthen life skills, and build meaningful connections with their families and communities. The program also promotes healthy lifestyles through daily physical activity, organized recreation, sports, swimming, and wellness activities that encourage teamwork, healthy habits, and positive social interaction.
FISCAL IMPACT:
RPCA will receive grant funding of $90,000 in 2027 from the GRPA Boost Program. The funding will support programs that will be conducted at Exchange Recreation Center, Gresham Recreation Center, Hamilton Recreation Center, and NH Scott Park.
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
To approve the acceptance of $90,000 from the GRPA BOOST Program to fund Afterschool and Summer Programs in 2027; and authorize the Chief Executive Officer to execute the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and all the other necessary documents to implement the programs.
