PURPOSE:

In March 2021 an agenda item was approved by the Board of Commission for District 3 and 6 to support the 2021 MicroLife Institute Design Studio. 

This agenda is to appropriate reserve for appropriation funds from Commission Districts 4, 6, and 7 for continues and shared support for 2022 for the continued effort of the MicroLife Institute Design Studio Project for Memorial Drive Corridor from I-285 to Stone Mountain.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

This Design Studio project focuses on creating urban design proposals and modeling their performance with the considerations of the "Green New Deal". Georgia Tech School of Architecture students will reimagine the Memorial Drive Corridor from I-285 to Stone Mountain through sustainable and resilient redevelopment incorporating new urbanist principals. Student teams from the Georgia Tech School of Architecture, led by Ellen Dunham-Jones, will produce proposals for logistics and project planning with Georgia Tech Design Studio students project work on the Memorial Drive Corridor from I-285 to Stone Mountain.

MicroLife Institute will support this Design Studio by aiding in logistics and connect with the community while supporting the initiatives of both GA Tech and DeKalb County. After the Design Studio, MicroLife will work on educating and informing the results with the community and local leaders.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

Funding for this project includes $15,000 from the District 6 Reserve for Appropriations.

Recommended Action

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
