PURPOSE:
By recognizing our DeKalb County E-911 Telecommunicators as first responders, it will allow them to be recognized alongside our Police, Fire, and EMS professionals that they serve with. Other states such as Texas has passed legislation that classify E - 911 Telecommunicators as first responders. DeKalb County will set a precedence in Georgia, becoming the first county in the State of Georgia to designate its’s E-911 operators as first responders.
NEED/IMPACT:
Our telecommunicators have been unofficially on the front line for over 50 years now. Now our DeKalb County Saves act resolution, when passed by our board of commissioners designates our emergency telecommunicators as professional first responders, the first resolution of its kind in the state of Georgia.
Our Telecommunicators are the first people on scene, regardless of their physical location, they determine the response that will be dispatched, they manage the scene throughout the incident, they relay vital situational awareness and, in many cases, provide life-saving instructions to the caller before first responders arrive. Probably the most important part of the resolution is, it gives them the recognition that they have earned with their impeccable service to our community in DeKalb County.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no cost to the County.
RECOMMENDATION:
