PURPOSE:

To consider accepting donated books valued at $2,400 from The Charlie’s Kids Foundation, for the DeKalb Maternal Infant & Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV).

NEED/IMPACT:

Human Services received a generous book donation from the Charlie’s Kids Foundation, which will significantly enhance our efforts to promote safe sleep practices among families in our community. This award would allow us to provide families with their own personal copy of "Sleep Baby, Safe and Snug," a valuable, accessible resource designed to educate caregivers on safe sleep environments for infants.

Developed by the Charlie’s Kids Foundation, these books are a cornerstone of their mission to spread the safe sleep message across communities of all demographics and income levels. By placing these books directly into the hands of families, we can meet a critical need-ensuring every caregiver has the tools and knowledge to help prevent sleep-related infant deaths.

In partnership with MIECHV funding for First Steps and Parents as Teachers (PAT), this book donation amplifies the ongoing work of our home visiting programs, reinforcing vital safe sleep education during early home visits. The accessibility and clarity of this resource will help reinforce our conversations and empower families to implement best practices confidently and consistently.

This partnership with Charlie’s Kids will serve as a powerful catalyst in our shared commitment to keeping babies safe and supporting parents from the very beginning. Together, we are making safe sleep a reality for every baby, in every home. This will be a one-time donation of 12 case(s) of English and 4 case(s) of Spanish, each case will contain 60 books.
