Phone Number: 770-492-5206

PURPOSE:

To consider accepting and appropriating up to $500,000.00 from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) for the construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Moreland Avenue and Bailey Street; and
To consider authorizing the Chief Executive Officer to execute all necessary documents for completion of this project.

NEED/IMPACT:

It is currently difficult for vehicles on Bailey Street, especially large trucks, to turn left toward I-285.  The proposed traffic signal will improve operations and safety at the intersection.  The proposed signal is a part of a larger project that will also include a roundabout at the Bailey Street / Woodstock Road / Fayetteville Road / Fleetwood Drive intersection.  On October 28, 2021, the Board of Commissioners reserved $3,614,622.00 of line 1B SPLOST I funds for the overall project. Additional construction funding in the amount $505,605.00 will be provided by the Metro South Community Improvement District through a Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB) grant.

FISCAL IMPACT:

No additional matching funds are anticipated to be needed.
