PURPOSE:
To consider accepting an additional grant award of $28,746.00 from the Georgia Department of Public Health for the DeKalb Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program and to appropriate the funds to the grant fund.
NEED/IMPACT:
The DeKalb Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program connects families to parenting resources and community services to help improve child and family well-being. Families receive services through First Steps, Parents as Teachers (PAT) and Early Head Start- Home Based Option Visiting Programs. The program is designed to equip parents with the skills needed to help prevent child abuse and neglect and to prepare children for school readiness. This grant represents the 9th year that funding for this program has been offered to DeKalb County.
The Governing Body approved acceptance of the original award amount of $612,636 for this program on September 24, 2019. In October 2019, the Human Services Department was notified of an increase in funding award for the DeKalb Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program. If approved, the total amount awarded for this contract will increase to $641,382, which will allow additional DeKalb families access to the program. Funding is for the period October 1, 2019-September 30, 2020.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact to the General Fund because there is no match requirement.
