PURPOSE:
To consider accepting a grant award in the amount of $594,466.69 from the Atlanta Regional Commission for additional case management, home delivered meals, transportation and material aid for DeKalb seniors during the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic and to appropriate the funds to the grant fund.
NEED/IMPACT:
The 116th United States Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security (CARES) Act on March 26, 2020 to address the economic impact of the current COVID-10 (Coronavirus) pandemic. One of the provisions of this Act provided relief funding to states to help those in need. The Atlanta Regional Commission has identified CARES Act funding, from the State of Georgia, in the amount of $594,466.69 to help DeKalb County seniors.
Funds will be utilized to provide additional home delivered meals, case management, transportation and material aid for seniors. If approved, $256,232.96 will be utilized to provide home delivered meals; $130,853.93 will be utilized to provide case management; $181,379.80 will be used to provide transportation and $26,000 will be used to provide material aid (personal protective equipment, cleaning supplies, fans, assistance with an emergency need and/or assistance with utilities). The Department will have until May 31, 2021 to utilize these funds and it is estimated that a total of 1,216 additional seniors will receive services as a result of this grant award.
