PURPOSE:
To appropriate $100,000 from District 2 ARP funding to Ser Familia to provide comprehensive social, family, and mental health services and programming to Spanish-speaking Latinos
NEED/IMPACT:
The Hispanic population in metro Atlanta nearly doubled from the 2000 census to the 2010 census (a jump of over 93%). Further, according to the Atlanta Regional Commission, the Latino population will increase by 153% by 2040, suggesting that needs will continue to increase significantly. DeKalb Latino families have come to Ser Familia throughout the pandemic with related needs for housing and food stability, but also for complex mental health needs, family services with navigation, and youth development. Services provided under this funding and through robust case management by Ser Familia will center on students at Cross Keys through SPARCS (Structured Psychotherapy for Adolescents Responding to Chronic Stress), on-site and in-person with trained facilitators and clinicians. The attached proposal shares the need, Ser Familia's detailed response, and the budget necessary for this program.
