Body
Information Contact: Commissioner Jeff Rader
Phone Number: 404-371-2863
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this study will be to show the direct connection between public investment in alternative transportation programming and the increased likelihood or requirement by private investors to follow trail program improvements. DeKalb County Commissioner Jeff Rader will fund a Georgia Tech City and Regional Planning affiliated study to make the case for higher levels of public funding for trail projects in the region. This paper will include case studies, graphic illustrations of successful projects, and a decision matrix for how best to prioritize available funding.
NEED/IMPACT:
Trail project funding has too often been relegated to a recreational only category of funding yet has been proven in recent times to be a critical site selection criterion for major redevelopment projects around the country and in the Atlanta region. The best recent examples of this are the Atlanta Beltline and the recently approved redevelopment plan for North DeKalb Mall.
