PURPOSE:

A Resolution adjusting all DeKalb County Tire Tip Fees to $1.00

NEED/IMPACT:

In 2023, the Board of Commissioners approved Agenda Item 2023-0310 which increased the Seminole Road Landfill “Residential Tires” tip fee from $1.00 per tire to $10.00 per tire. Since this fee increase, DeKalb County has experienced a decrease of tires received at the DeKalb County landfill categorized under the account “Resident Paying (RES-P)”.

When comparing tires received for the RES-P account in 2022 against 2025, there is a 56% decrease in tires received. Keep DeKalb Beautiful is the beautification unit of DeKalb County Sanitation that often hosts illegal dumping cleanup projects and tire amnesty days. Since the fee increase, DeKalb County has experienced an increase of tires received at the DeKalb County landfill categorized under the account “Keep DeKalb Beautiful (KDB)”. When comparing tires received for the KDB account in 2022 against 2025, there is a 359% increase in tires received. Illegal tire dumping impacts the health and public safety of DeKalb County residents and our environment. By restoring the fee to $1.00, DeKalb County may see an increase in tires received at the landfill.
