PURPOSE:
To approve the appropriation of $20,000 from the America Rescue Plan grant funds assigned to the account
reserved for a District 7 to the DeKalb County Human Services Department for the Lou Walker Senior Center Garden Project to assist in the mitigation of the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
NEED/IMPACT:
Community gardens have played a major role in addressing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, serving as a space to provide social support, emotional support, as well as access to fresh food to alleviate food insecurities in DeKalb County among the senior population. A community garden is needed for DeKalb County seniors to increase social interaction, social connectedness, and a sense of agency to mitigate the effects of social isolation and food insecurities caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
FISCAL IMPACT:
To appropriate $20,000 from the American Rescue Plan grant funds for District 7 to the DeKalb County Human Services Department for the Lou Walker Senior Center Garden Project to assist in the mitigation of the public health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
RECOMMENDATION:

To approve the resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
