PURPOSE:
With the expansion and new design of the SFAWTF, the existing pump station is fighting a new pump dynamic. There is additional strain on the old ILS pumps - that were designed in the 1980s and have not been rehabilitated in 13 years - and an inability to pump 80 million gallons of sewage into the new plant during high flow situations. Rebuilding the pumps, motors, and some auxiliary equipment will allow DWM to restore the original pumping efficiency to move sewage into the plant for processing; and reduce the public health and environmental hazards caused by sewer spills into the South River and other waters of the State.
