PURPOSE:
To appropriate an amount not to exceed $13,300 of District 6 Reserve for Appropriations to Roots Down Inc to continue advancing the regenerative earth care movement in DeKalb County through two flagship initiatives: the Meadow Project and the Library Transition Plan. This agenda item is for summer prep and projects that will be revisited for fall and winterizing needs critical to protecting these investments.
NEED/IMPACT:
Commissioner Terry has championed two regenerative earth care initiatives: the Meadow Project and the Library Transition Plan. These initiatives have transformed DeKalb County landscapes into pollinator-friendly habitats that reduce flooding, improve soil health, require less fossil fuel maintenance, provide beauty, and, at library locations, create outdoor spaces that foster community engagement and connection. These funds will go towards continuing to advance these initiatives throughout the summer and include supporting expansion of meadows, developing meadow maintenance policies, overseeing and providing support for any new meadow installations, developing a guide and proposal for meadows under powerlines, support for and any final installation work at the Clarkston and Chamblee pilot library sites, identifying and developing one pagers of possible and ideal libraries for the next phase of the transition plan, creating before and after videos and photos, and hosting community programs d...
