PURPOSE:

Pursuant to the Georgia Hospital Authorities Law, as amended by local legislation for the appointment of Trustees to the DeKalb County Hospital Authority, the chief executive officer shall nominate individuals for confirmation by the board of commissioners as provided in Section 13A of the Organizational Act for appointment to the DeKalb Hospital Authority. CEO Thurmond nominates Ms. Shunda Harper for appointment to Post 7 of the DeKalb County Hospital Authority. Ms. Harper will replace Mr. John Funny, who resigned in January 2022, and fill the unexpired four (4) year term, which will expire on September 19, 2025.

 

NEED/IMPACT:

The mission of the DeKalb County Hospital Authority is to perform certain oversight functions related to the lease of the Emory Decatur Hospital and the Emory Hillandale Hospital to the DeKalb Medical Center, Inc., a subsidiary of the Emory Healthcare System. This appointment would seat a Trustee in Post 7 until September 19, 2025. Ms. Harper is a registered nurse with a doctorate in nursing practice who works at Emory Healthcare and is the Interim Vice President of Workforce Optimization at the subject hospitals.

 

FISCAL IMPACT:

No cost to the County.

To confirm the appointment of Ms. Shunda Harper to Post 7 of the DeKalb County Hospital Authority for the unexpired four-year term effective immediately and expiring on September 19, 2025.
