PURPOSE:
State law allows counties to object to annexations under certain circumstances. The County Attorney and relevant County staff are investigating the grounds for an objection to recently filed petitions for annexation of over 700 acres into the City of Atlanta. The County anticipates providing the elected officials with a substitute item with specific grounds for objection for adoption and approval at a specially called meeting typically held immediately after the Committee of the Whole on August 1, 2017.

This item will protect the health, safety and welfare interests of the County and its taxpayers.

RECOMMENDATION:
Recommended Action
Defer this item to a specially called meeting of August 1, 2017. At that time, accept a substitute, approve the substitute resolution and authorize the chief executive officer to execute all necessary documents.
